Creating a new kitchen is not something people do every day,1 in fact most people will do it once if ever so there are several pitfalls to watch out for. The first thing you want to do is research, do not go out and buy the first appliances or cabinets you come across. This is a room in your home that you will have to use for several years. If you try to do this in a hurry, you could make some big mistakes.

When you decide it is time to purchase your new kitchen you should try to stick with a company that is local and has a good reputation. They will offer you better service and value for the dollar. Do not be enticed by large direct sales companies most of their merchandise is cheap and second rate. These companies spend the majority of their overhead on training sales staff and operating expenses. Sales people often times make huge commissions on their sales and are taught every trick in the book to get your hard earned money. The favorite ploy they use is to tell you that this is a onetime deal that will not be available tomorrow. The fact is if you pass on the ?great? deal, the sales manager will be calling you the very next day with an even better deal. If you give in your results are liable to be a poorly designed and cheap made kitchen that you will pay a lot of money for.

Choosing your contractor is the next step in your new kitchen. Designing and installing a kitchen can be tricky business so you will want someone experienced in the field. Do not use a handy man unless you are positive that they know exactly what they are doing. Otherwise, you can end up with a poorly constructed kitchen.

Check references and actually go see the work they have done. Beware however that many contractors will only give you access to the customers that were perfectly happy. They could have done 50 kitchens and give you only the two names of people who were satisfied. Check at least three previous jobs to get a feel for the quality of a contractors work.

If you are having trouble getting a floor plan down there are many retailers who will take your kitchen dimensions and give you a three-dimensional rendering. This will give you a visual aid to choosing cabinets, appliances and flooring.

Always ask for a discount, there is always room for movement price wise, they will never give you their best price first and if they have they will say no to a discount. Fair enough!

An expensive part of a new kitchen are the worktops if you are thinking of granite.. There are companies now importing granite from the Far East, so it is getting cheaper but the quality is not so good. Having said that cheaper granite may still be better than laminate worktops, as long as you know what you are getting. Carcases can vary, once again the small independent person will probably have the best.18mm rigid. With about 25 different finishes. These then match the doors. Light oak door on a light oak carcase looks terrific. The bigger companies will not do this. They will have a white or beige carcase with plant on ends to match the doors.. The leading edge does not match the doors and does not look as good.

Remember too that you will have to have a qualified technician doing all of the electric and plumbing. In most areas, it is illegal for an uncertified person to work with gas or electric. If at any point, you wish to sell the home there will be certification required and it can be very expensive. The individual fitting your new kitchen should have this sorted out for you in advance.

Should you decide to purchase appliances or sinks and faucets online you need to be cautious. There are companies that claim to sell Franke kitchen sinks, but the reality is something else. Faucets also can look like the real deal but actually come from overseas and are of substandard construction. The old saying is if it looks to good it probably is, and this is a true statement. Watch for name brands and insure they are spelled right!

Lists are your best friend when designing a new kitchen. Be sure you list every appliance and accessory that you may want in your kitchen along with type, color and size. Are you interested in built ins that are hidden from view? Will you want the dishwasher integrated or behind the kitchen door? Integrated appliances are more expensive and you have the problem of getting a door that will fit the appliance.

After the new kitchen is installed, your floor tiles are normally fitted to save money. Be sure you allow for the thickness of the new tile and bonding cement so that you will not be required to trim the plinths. Your tiles can then be laid just under the edge of the plinth.
